Avalanche Training Level 1
Do you venture out of bounds, off the trails, or into the backcountry? An ATL 1 is your place to start. You don't need any experience to take this course. It is a must for everyone recreating in the backcountry or slack country. This is the course where you’ll learn how to behave in a safe manner while understanding if you are in avalanche terrain or not. An ATL 1 is a two-day course with I day of classroom theory and one day for field training. this course is perfect to do with the people that you regularly tour with. Remember that an ATL 1 course is a recreational course, it is the beginning of your avalanche education journey.

- The anatomy of avalanches.
- How to identify if you are touring in avalanche terrain.
- Understanding how to interpret the local avalanche bulletin.
- Optimal use of tools and resources like the avalanche forecasts to mitigate your avalanche risk.
- Victim rescue training using beacon, shovel and probe.

Avalanche Training Level 2
Once you have completed your ATL 1and have a season for using your new skill under your belt, why not continue your learning and complete ATL2?
The ATL 2 course take you to a new level of avalanche awareness. It will teach more advanced snowpack analysis tools and test and with more field emphasis you will be doing more hands-on learning to enable you to be safer backcountry traveler. This course is configured with 1 classroom day to do over some ATL1 fundamentals, with some more advanced snow science being offered too.
Days 2-4 will be solely in the field learning advanced tools to keep you safe and allowing to you make better informed decision while backcountry touring.
Learning outcomes for the ATL 2 course include:
The ATL 2 course take you to a new level of avalanche awareness. - Advance trip planning and snowpack assessment.
- Appling the regional danger rating to your days touring or coming up with a danger rating if no regional forecast is supplied.
- Advance victim rescue training looking for multiple signals.
- Adding more snow testing techniques to those learnt in ATL1
Victim RescueTraining
Victim rescue training is a 1-day course that is normally an add on to ATL1. This 1-day course will go deep into beacon technology and inform the student of the way’s signals are sent and received from beacons. The course also includes methods to find victims that are not wearing avalanche beacons
