MEMBERSHIP
Becoming a professional member of Avalanche Australia requires knowledge of evolving avalanche-related sciences, specialized technical training, and extensive operational experience. Avalanche Australia members serve the public by evaluating avalanche hazards and managing risks to protect people and property from avalanches. As a member of Avalanche Australia, you gain an important credential that assures these vital responsibilities are being conducted by a capable and qualified individual.

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES
Professional Members have completed the Industry Training Program Avalanche Operations Level 1 (or equivalent) or higher and have been engaged in avalanche-related activities during two of the past four winter seasons. In addition, Active Membership applicants must arrange for one current Professional member to submit a reference

Recreational Members have completed recreational Training Level 1 (or equivalent) and are engaged in avalanche-related activities on a regular or part-time basis.

APPLICATION PROCESS
The Membership Committee are responsible for processing membership applications. They are assisted by Membership Services staff. Questions relating to application processing should be directed to Membership Services staff.
The Avalanche Australia bylaws, this website and the application forms outline requirements for membership. Processing times for applications depend on several factors including the availability of the Membership Committee members who are active avalanche professionals with associated work commitments. The Committee aims to process applications within two weeks, however applications where referees or applicants need to be contacted for supplementary information often take longer.
